BlueGold, a leading water treatment engineering company with more than 19 years of experience in the industry. EDI technology has been our best proposal for years to design, build and supply deionized (ultrapure) water systems that provide the best results. Our EDI systems have a salt removal capacity of up to 99.9%, which allows us to reduce the levels of individual ionic species and produce ultrapure water.

Today, water recycling is an essential issue for multiple industries, including power generation and semiconductor manufacturing. Because of their activity, these industries require large quantities of pure water.

BlueGold is committed to innovation and excellence in water treatment engineering and our EDI systems have been developed to achieve the highest quality standards in water treatment.

In electrodeionization, ion exchange resins, ion selective membranes and a direct electric current are used to remove ions such as salts, acids, dissolved silica, boron and some organic compounds. The EDI/CEDI modules are constructed with membranes permeable to cations or anions, and depending on their polarity, they evacuate ion water (product water) or accumulate ions (reject water). The dilute and concentrated compartments are filled with ion exchange resins, and the reject stream is recirculated for recovery.

EDI systems produce ultrapure water by operating in electro-regeneration mode, therefore, they do not need chemical regeneration since the resins are continuously regenerated by H+ and OH – ions that are released by the dissociation of electrically induced water molecules.

Advantages BG UltraPure

Environmentally friendly

The EDI electrodeionization system is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional ion exchange resin systems because it does not require regeneration chemicals. Instead, the EDI system is continuously regenerated by electrically induced dissociation of water molecules, making it more economical and environmentally friendly. In addition, the absence of chemicals during the process allows for high purity and safe water that can be used in a wide variety of applications.

Total water optimization

The EDI electrodeionization system allows for total water optimization, as it uses ion exchange resins and ion selective membranes to remove unwanted ions, which significantly reduces the amount of wastewater produced. In this way, by fully utilizing water, we benefit the environment by reusing resources while reducing operating costs. In addition, the production of ultrapure water and the effective removal of unwanted ions makes the treated water safe and suitable for a wide variety of applications, from the food industry to the manufacture of pharmaceuticals.

Lower operating cost

The EDI electrodeionization system represents minimal operating costs by using only electricity as the energy source, which significantly reduces operating costs compared to systems using chemicals. In addition, EDI systems do not require frequent maintenance and replacement of ion exchange resins, which also reduces costs in the long term.

Operating conditions

BG Ultrapure systems produce ultrapure (deionized) water, with a resistivity of up to 18.2 MΩ.cm. Our engineers tailor the systems to your needs based on the quality of the incoming water so that you enjoy the best choice with the highest possible water recovery capacity, which can be as high as 99%.

The EDI process can be affected by critical contaminants such as hardness (calcium, magnesium), organic matter (TOC), particulate and suspended solids (SDI), active metals (iron, manganese), oxidants (chlorine, ozone) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Therefore, it is necessary to have a pretreatment process specially designed for the EDI system in order to eliminate these types of contaminants as much as possible, since the maximum allowable recovery of ultrapure water is conditioned by the silica concentrations present in the feed water and its hardness.

The BG Ultrapure system allows maximum water recovery at hardness levels < 1 ppm, which can even reach 2-4 ppm in certain circumstances. Table 1 below shows the maximum values allowed for the inlet water:

INCOMING WATER
UnitsValue
Total hardness (as CaCO3) ppm≤ 1,0
Silica (SiO2)ppm< 1,0
Maximum total chlorine (as Cl2)ppm< 0.02
Temperature°C5 – 45
pH4 – 11

Note: In special cases other parameter values are also possible at the input. Contact Bluegold for a customized study.
